Organic tea

Organic Tea is for the most part what it sounds like. All of the different types of tea can also be found in Organic form as well. Organic Teas do NOT use conventional pesticides, petroleum based fertilizers or sewage sludge-based fertilizers. Tea that is in strict accordance with the guidelines of the COR, are teas that prevent the mixing of organic and non-organic products and prevents organic products from coming into contact with prohibited substances.

When you see the COR label you can be assured you are drinking a great cup of Organic Tea.  The following is the COR logo

Many Tea's grown at High Altitudes enjoy a natural defence to pests. It is often too cold for pests to survive at the high altitudes and thus the need for pesticides are reduced, ensuring a natural organic tea leaf. But the same can not be said for many of the other ingredients that might be blended into your tea.

At TEAroma-THÉaroma we will only offer a tea carrying the "Organic" label or name that follows the COR guidelines, and one where documentation can be produced that shows there is annual audits in place to ensure that all COR processes are in order.

Fruit Tea

Fruit Tea is one of those blends that are a fan favourite for hot summer days, loved by children and parents alike. The variety is immense so let your taste buds explore, and simply enjoy. Fruit teas do NOT come from the Camellia Sinensis plant which is what a typical tea would contain. Instead these delicious blends get their taste from the infusion of fruit and herbs.

Did we mention they taste great both Hot and Cold?

Fruit teas are sweet, colourful and refreshing. They have an amazing aroma and fruit tea can be cold brewed overnight to get an all natural iced tea. Hows that for fun? Cold brewing prevents the tea from turning bitter.
Fruit teas are a great alternative to soda pops and sugary juices. To add a little more sweetness to your tea, simply make a simple syrup by boiling 2 cups of water with 1/2 cup of sugar to make a sugar syrup or add in some apple juice to sweeten. Once finished steeping  your fruit teas, don't throw out the herbs and fruit, let your children munch on them as a delicious treat, or save them to add to a batch of muffins or homemade bread, or any other baking goodies. Fruit teas are full of vitamin C which also make them a healthy alternative for you, your children and family.

Fruit Tea Steeping Suggestions:
Water Temp. : 208F / 95C
Hot Tea 1.5tsp of tea per 8oz water
Iced Tea: 3tsp of tea per 8oz water
Steeping time: 5-8 minutes for Hot
                        8-15 for Cold
*When making iced tea, follow iced tea measurements, amounts and times, then serve over ice.
*Drink straight or sweeten, milk and sugar is not generally added.

Oolong Tea

Oolong is another great tea that should be found in your tea collection. Oolong tea is created through a unique process that includes withering under the strong sun and oxidation before curling and twisting. The different varieties of oolong are processed differently before being turned into one of 2 distinct styles. Some Oolong's are twisted and curled into long curled leaves, while other varieties are wrapped and rolled into small beads, each wit ha tail.

Oolong is known for helping people lose weight, reduce stress and lower cholesterol.

Oolongs are only 75% fermented,  which results in a very delicious, sweet and fruity tea. Oolongs, like other tea types are graded according to their quality. The very best is called 'Choice', followed by 'finest to choice', then 'finest', 'fine to finest' and so on.

Oolong Tea Steeping Suggestions:
Water Temp. : 195F / 90C
Hot Tea 1tsp of tea per 8oz water
Iced Tea: 2tsp of tea per 8oz water
Steeping time: 3-7 minutes

Black Tea

Black Tea and Green Tea are what most people are familiar with. Black tea is generally a stronger tea in terms of flavour than the other types of teas and Black tea naturally has a higher concentration of caffeine usually. It is a full bodied tea and a strong tea, that is quite flavourful and delicious on its own, or with a splash of milk and sugar.

Black tea is often a favourite when making Iced tea.

Black Tea is made from the leaves of the camellia sinensis plant, and is more oxidized than other varieties of tea, brewing a stronger flavour. Black Tea is the most processed type of tea and tastes the least like the natural leaf. Black Tea is graded according to size, not quality. There are two grades of black tea, leaf and broken. Subdivisions of the grade include Orange Pekoe, Pekoe, and Souchong. Black teas are fully fermented.

Black Tea Steeping Suggestions:
Water Temp. : 205F- 208F / 90-98C
Hot Tea 1tsp of tea per 8oz water
Iced Tea: 2tsp of tea per 8oz water
Steeping time: 2-4 minutes
*if stronger flavour is desired, add more tea not more time. Black tea will taste bitter if it is infused for a longer than suggested time.
*Drink straight or add milk and sugar to suit taste

Green Tea

When you think of tea, there is a good chance that you are thinking of green or black tea. Green tea originates from China and has been at the center of more than 500 research studies conducted in recent years. In Asia this smooth brew has been used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years.

Science has linked Green Tea consumption to the slowing or prevention of many medical conditions, ranging from heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, impaired immune disease and liver disease.  If this were not enough, some studies also suggest that Green Tea may have cancer fighting properties for cancer of the bladder, colon, prostate, esophageal, stomach, lung, breast and pancreas. Other health benefits of Green Tea also include the aiding in fighting tooth decay, and dieting. Green Tea has also been reported to reduce the risk of neurological disorders like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, reduction of risk associated to strokes, and the improvement of cholesterol levels.

Whether Green Tea is consumed hot or over ice, it's medicinal properties are attributed to its rich concentration of catechin polphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate, which act as powerful antioxidants that ward off disease and can lead to improved health.

Green Tea, in general has a higher level of antioxidants than Black Tea or the Oolong Varieties.

Green tea most resembles the taste of the tea leaf in its natural state. Most Green Teas have a light, slightly sweet flavor, while some have a smoky malt like flavour that leaves your mouth dry. The choice grade of green tea is Gunpowder; the young leaves are rolled into tiny balls. Green teas are not withered nor  are they fermented. Rather, the freshly picked leaves are steamed and then quickly dried which prevents the leaves from going brown.

Green Tea simply tastes great!
We are constantly improving our selection of teas, so please check back often to see the following list below of the Green Teas that we carry.

Please Note: Before starting a tea regimen for medicinal purposes, always consult with your doctor and discuss how and whether tea can play a role in your health care.

Hot Tea: 1tsp tea per 8oz water
Iced Tea: 2 tsp tea per 8oz water
Steeping Time: 1-3 minutes
*If stronger flavour is desired, add more tea not more time. Green tea will taste bitter if infused longer than suggested.
